Portable Power Plane Safety Rules for Woodworking and Your Woodshop

  • Make all adjustments prior to plugging in the power cord.
  • Be sure the switch is off before plugging in the power cord.
  • Make sure there are no loose knots, staples, nails, etc. before attempting to plane.
  • Securely clamp the stock before planning.
  • Do not use in damp or inclement weather.
  • Hold the power plane with both hands during the operation.
  • Be sure the blade is not in contact with the stock before turning on the power.
  • Only apply a gentle, downward pressure to the plane when using. The weight of the plane is satisfactory to complete the work.
  • Push the plan at a constant, medium speed. Do not force the plane.
  • Do not plane stock that is less than 8 inches long. Check your owner's manual for confirmation.
  • Disconnect the power before attempting to clean out shavings and chips from the planer.
  • After the cut wait until the blade has stopped rotating before laying it down.
