Posted by

  • Always use a face shield while operating a grinder.
  • Bench Grinder
  • Don't operate a grinder unless it is securely mounted to a work surface.
  • Make all adjustments before turning on the power.
  • Adjust the tool rest 1/8" from the wheels and about 1/8" below center. Safety shields and Wheel guards should always be in place.
  • Always stand to one side of the grinding wheels when turning on the power.
  • If there is any vibration with the grinder, turn it off immediately and immediately do an inspection. If the grinding wheel is cracked, replace it. If it is out of balance, redress it until it is true before reusing.
  • All work to be ground should be supported by a tool rest. Never attempt grinding free hand.
  • Do not grind or exert excess pressure on the side of the grinding wheel.
  • Move the objects being ground side to side across the face of the wheel. Also, frequently dip the tool or object being ground into the water pot to prevent it from overheating and loosing temper.
  • When grinding small objects, be sure to use vice grips or some other clamping device to hold the object.
  • When completed, turn off the grinder and wait until it comes to a full stop.
