What are the different chisles for a wood lathe used for?

Answer:
There are six basic hand tools used to shape wood projects on a lathe.
These tools include the following:

Gouge, Skew, Spear Point, Flat Nose, Round Nose and Parting Tool. Each tool has a specific use as stated below:

  • -GOUGE: Rough cutting stock to round shapes.
  • -SKEW: Smooth cuts to finish a surface.
  • -SPEAR POINT: Finish the inside of recesses or corners.
  • -FLAT NOSE: Scraping a straight surface, such as a face plate.
  • -ROUND NOSE: Scraping concave recesses and circular grooves.
  • -PARTING TOOL: Cut a groove or recess.
