I have had an interest in woodworking since the 7th grade. The first project I remember making was a table lamp which I turned on a wood lathe. It turned out so well that I was hooked from then on. I took additional wood classes in high school and college, and eventually graduated with a degree in Industrial Technology. I taught Woodworking, Cabinetmaking, Drafting, Engineering Drawing, and Architectural Design Classes for 33 years. The last 20 years of teaching I incorporated the use of computers and the AUTOCAD Program to aide in the design of projects and buildings.
Power Machines, Portable Power Equipment, and Hand Tools are a must for any woodshop. Under these three categories you will find the necessary items required to make the woodshop complete and functional.

Woodworking is a fascinating industry, and can be a very enjoyable vocation or avocation. But like most businesses or hobbies there are certain rules that must be followed to insure ones enjoyment and safety.
To avoid accidents, safety must be paramount in one’s mind at all times when working with tools or equipment.
There are literally thousands of wood species that grow throughout the world. In some cases, there are often many varieties of the same species. The species listed on our site have been selected to give a sampling of some of the most common and most popular woods used for commercial woodworking purposes.
The terms provided in this glossary are ones used in Lee’s woodworking website. They include a wide range of topics, such as: species, joints, finishes, abrasives, adhesives, safety rules, fasteners, manufactured boards, woodworking machines and hand tools, as well as terms used to describe the materials and procedures for making wood projects.
Woodworking is a broad field which incorporates the construction of buildings, boats, cabinets, furniture, etc. My main focus for this web site is to explain how to make furniture, office equipment, cabinets, desks and toys, as well as many other miscellaneous wood and home remodeling projects. These projects incorporate the use of hand tools, machines, computers, and other equipment necessary to design, layout, cut, shape, assemble, and finish wood projects.
These projects will require the knowledge and use of a planer, jointer, mortise machine, various saws, sanders, drills, nail guns, clamps, and other machines and tools. The use of fasteners, hinges, glues, sandpaper, fillers, stains and finishes is also an integral part of woodworking. People who would find this website useful would include all those who have a desire to work with wood. It would include professional woodworkers, such as finish carpenters, furniture makers, cabinetmakers, etc. It would also be of interest for the vocational person who just wants to design and make wood projects or crafts for a hobby.
